âYou want to mark me?â I asked, sitting on the couch, my legs draped over Shadowâs lap as he massaged my feet. His touch was intoxicating. The perfect pressure he applied across my heels was heavy and had me moaning.
âWhen youâre ready, yes,â he admitted, studying me carefully, waiting for my response to a conversation that came up only because he asked me how I felt about Viper biting me with his mark. âItâs a privilege to bond with my forever Omega. To know our bodies will always crave one another, our hearts and souls connected. Itâs a beautiful thing, really.â
A smile curled my lips. Hearing the passion and love in his voice touched me right in my chest. Part of me was desperate to curl in his arm, push back my hair, and ask him to bite meâto make me his forever. My heart throbbed faster at the thought, but first, I wanted to better understand the mark.
âWhat happens if the person youâre bound with dies?â It was a question I could never bring up with Viper, knowing he lost his first Omega. I had no idea if heâd marked her, but did it matter now?
âIt depends.â Shadowâs gorgeous mouth pinched to the side, his eyes dipping momentarily from mine. Sliding his hands under my hips, he brought me up to sit on his lap. Our faces were so close, I saw the flecks of gold in his gray eyes. Heat poured off his body as I pressed myself against him, and he cradled me to his chest.
âHow does it depend?â
âEveryone reacts differently. Iâve heard of Omegas dying when the connection breaks. One Alpha I knew lost his ability to speak.â
âShit, thatâs bad.â Fear crept into my body.
âThe connection is intense and makes you feel like you couldnât live without your partner. The hard part is being marked by multiple partners doesnât lessen the ache if one is lost. In fact, all of us bonded with you would feel it.â
I swallowed hard, lifting my gaze to his sympathetic one.
âWhy do people do it, then?â
âBecause itâs the greatest expression of love for someone. You are physically putting your life on the line to prove your love.â He stroked my cheek, a lock of black hair tumbling over one eye.
My heart thumped faster at how completely smitten I was by Shadow, how beautiful he was, how I could just look into his eyes all night long.
âI wonât hesitate to do that for you when youâre ready.â
I blinked at my beautiful Alpha, loving his affection and patience. I thought about Viper biting me without asking me first and how I couldnât hate him for it. Maybe because Iâd become so smitten with him, I stood no chance to keep being mad at him. Perhaps he knew that when he marked me, but Viper was also a man who acted on his emotions. When he loved something, he went out and took it⦠something that definitely took getting used to.
âAre you okay?â Shadow asked, stroking the back of his fingers across my jawline.
